The paddles forming the shape of a ship wheel gives this logo a sense of stability and direction. |

Weiss Media - Eugene, Oregon |
2008 |
Illustration, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop |
This logo was made for a new bar in Eugene, Oregon located off a major route. I used the image of a street sign to reinforce the name and location of the restaurant. An older sign was preferred in order to give the restaurant a classy feel. |

The back of Chris Sovey's CD package shows a photograph of him leaning on a brick wall. I expanded on the image, adding a doorway and other brick walls. I was hoping to suggest he was taking lost in a giant labyrinth. |

The inside of the CD package folds out to contain the song lyrics. I had to manipulate a large amount of text to get this information to fit within 4 panels (the 4th panel is on the CD cover layout). |

The tray case for the CD package is a simple combination of the brick walls I created and the mazes I illustrated. The two make for a nice texture. |

Chris Sovey contacted me through a recording studio I had done some work for in Lansing, Michigan. The actual cd represents the jewel case cover, his photograph set over a brick wall and illustrations of mazes. The mazes were used to reinforce the title of the album, Lost Without You. |

I like the effect of the center panel, the instruments are faded behind the typography in gray while the blue in his shirt brings him to the foreground. |

Dance for Peace - Logo and Promo Poster |
Jaxx - Eugene, Oregon |
2006 |
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop |
Every Wednesday I assisted in working the door at this event. All of the cover charge went to a local nonprofit that was active in ending the war in Iraq. The peace sign is made up of feet and arrows, indicating dancing instructions. The couple are from an old, odd record cover. I like how they happen to be looking at the logo. |

This retail advertisement would be placed in a high income publication, so I created a classy table setting as the focus. I feel the colors in this photograph compliment the logo well. |

The president of the company is a photographer, I was lucky enough to work with him on this project. Besides the experience of working with Zeph, I feel good about this ad. It's simple. Just like the company's products and philosophy. |

This wholesale advertisement implies Down To Earth products are used for doing every day tasks. I like how the panels move from shopping for food, preparing it, then cleaning up. |

I like how the illustration of the bee came out on this package design. It was important to keep the bee friendly. I'm sure bee's don't smile, but this one does. It also is flying with a candle and goggles. The clouds here are similar to the clouds I made for the bat guano box. I intended to use clouds on each of the fertilizers illustration, in hidesight, I'm glad they weren't overused. This was printed in full process color. |

Down To Earth - Catalog Cover (garden Side) |
Down To Earth |
2007 |
Illustration, Block Printing, Photography, Adobe Streamline, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop |
The Down To Earth catalog contains over 3,000 products that are sold wholesale. I assisted in the layout of these catalogs that contained at least 130 pages. The cover showed the Home products on this bi-annual publication, flip the catalog over and find the cover for Garden products. This cover was done with a "down home" feeling. It was published during the company's 30th year in business. The design elements represented the practical and natural feel that make up the product line. I created a block print for this illustration. |

Down To Earth - Compost Package Design |

Illustration, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Streamline |
"Verm the worm" became the Down To Earth mascot after I illustrated and designed this compost bag. We used his character in the fertilizer guide, advertisements and on the web site to present information. If all worms were this cute, fishing may become unpopular. This job uses 5 spot colors. |

This is one of the first package designs I made for Down To Earth and happened to be one of their biggest sellers. The bag is almost 24" tall, yet the original illustration was about 8" tall. Due to time restraints on this project, I wasn't able to put more than a couple hours into the illustration. To save time, I used a few flowers and elements from the soil bag. My co-worker, Shannon Schott, drew the red bird. Under the time restraints and being limited to 4 spot colors, I feel this design came out very well. |

Down To Earth - Fertilizer Package Design |
Down To Earth |
2007 |
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop |
The packaging for the liquid fertilizers was designed with a few existing elements in mind. First, all of the existing packaging contained the red horseshoe. The soil bag illustration was very popular with the owners, so I incorporated it into the background. From this point on, all garden packaging would have the green leaf background and solid bar on the bottom of the design. The solid bar's color varies between types of product and always holds the logo to the bottom and center to the package. These are done in full, process color. |

During my 4 year employment, I oversaw the design, inventory, prepress and printing of over 200,000 fertilizer boxes and bags. The entire line of fertilizers composed of 15 different designs. The entire redesign of the main product line was a large investment which drew an immediate increase in sales. All boxes are printed with soy ink (4 spot colors) on recycled stock and feature 15 different illustrations. |
