More details GEARs General Meeting, Touring Asia – Bali, Beijing and Inland Sea Islands Starts: 6:00 pm Ends: 8:00 pm, February 23, 2012 Location: Countryside Pizza, 645 River Road Description: Fall is a great time to visit Asia, and Ruthy Kanagy did just that last October, taking her folding Bike Friday ‘tikit’ to Indonesia, China and Japan. She joined a 5-day tour of Bali organized by ONE BIKES in Jakarta, and ate, laughed, talked, and cycled her way through city traffic jams, rural villages, ride paddies, mountains, and the coast with 31 Indonesian riders. From there she flew to Beijing to visit several bike shops and rode with Chinese cyclists to the northwest mountains, visiting imperial tombs, temples, ending with a sumptuous feast of fish, jelly fish and other delicacies. Finally, she solo-toured the “Shimanami” Inland Sea route of western Japan – a premier cycling route over scenic islands linked by spectacular bridges, with devoted bike lanes or bike paths throughout. She stayed at family inns, took her ‘tikit’ on the bullet train, and rode with Japanese cyclists. Come and share Ruthy’s experience – you never know, your next cycling adventure may take you to Asia! Employment opportunities include working in a bicycle shop, manufacturing, shipping and receiving, warehousing, mechanic school, independent sales representative, fabrication, design and more. The purpose of this event is to create a network for those interested in working in the cycling industry. Although there may not be immediate openings available, we will share resumes with employers seeking qualified help.
