Vector Illustration, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

I started this project without having access to a photograph of David Icke. Having his likeness on this cover seemed important, so I illustrated this image of David with Adobe Illustrator. This illustration was done with a mouse and a photograph that was made for the internet. The next illustration I made was the sacred geometry of circles and lines. From there, I added some trick photography. I found a photo of blurred lights in a dark room and deleted the black in the photo. What was left were the curved lines from the photo. I pasted them over the moon, under the logo and behind the top of David’s head. They bring a great sense of movement to the logo. I duplicated the image of David to suggest that he has visited other worlds or dimensions. I was very inspired by the movie Waking Life and I look forward to doing more vector illustrations like this one.

David Icke has been connecting the dots of conspriracy for the past decade. Big brother was the topic of this documentary. So, the stage was set in Oxford for an over-the-top, shocking DVD cover. I combined satellites, security cameras, the all-seeing eye, outter space, lasers and -of course- explosions and boom! …a scary David Icke DVD cover! I like how David Icke’s satellite is exposing the all-seeing eye. I had a great time working on this project… Just don’t tell anyone that I made this, okay?

Pulp Fiction – DVD Package Design and Logo Design

Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

How I made the DVD package:

pulpfiction_makingof1

I was hired by UFOTV to make the package design for Pulp Fiction, a documentary on early science fiction authors and their work. I watched the film, it was inspiring! So…

pulpfiction_makingof2

…The Pulp Fiction DVD package design started with a volcano! I duplicated an area of a volcano, rotating it so it would form a sphere. An explosion!

pulpfiction_makingof3

I tried to stick with classic pulp colors: red, yellow and black.

pulpfiction_makingof4

From a large selection of AMAZING artwork, we chose images from these works.

pulpfiction_makingof5

After some detailed cut and paste work, I place the images into the layout.

pulpfiction_makingof6

The logo is added to the design with some DRAMA!

pulpfiction_makingof7

The final layout is heavy on the red and black, with much of the yellow exploding on the front cover. The sun that was made from a volcano is barely visible. The hands that were once reaching upwards towards a woman, are now reaching for a woman – defended by a robot. Meanwhile a white man in middle eastern duds is being goosed by a golden serpent! Come to your own conclusion here: _________________________.

Pulp Fiction DVD Screen Menu

The Pulp Fiction documentary had a custom menu screen. I designed the volcano to be a bit larger in this layout. The perspective on the logo drips super drama.

Pulp Fiction DVD Discs

The Pulp Fiction documentary comes with two compact discs. Each disc has a custom image that relates to the overall package design.

Great photography requires little design work, but the logo works well with the composition.

With 2012 approaching, there is an increasing awareness of the Mayan Calendar. Attached to this new awareness, are various opinions on how this ancient system was developed and how it relates to our moment in history. The general response to this information has been fear, connecting the end of the Mayan cycle with a divine act of human extinction. In contrast to this, we have 2012: Evolving Perspectives on the Next Age. This documentary is an optimistic look at our opportunities at this tipping point in world events. The movie is divided into more than 12 short features covering grass roots movements that will influence our future societies. From alternative energy systems to Shamanism, the documentary will leave the viewer anticipating 2012 and the positive communities that will be created by today’s progressive movement. In creating a package for this concept, I wanted to address a number of points. First, I felt the DVD needed to be green. Not only for the environmental reference, but to address the technology mentioned in the film. Supporting the high-tech look, I placed the contributors on a 90 degree angle in front of the temple and behind it. The font for 2012 also adds to the technology look. The spiritual ideas in the film are represented at top and bottom (the moon and Mayan temple). Finally, to connect the Mayan Calendar with our current world events, I gave the temple the same lighting and color effects as the city skyline. In a sense, hinting that todays skyscrapers reach for a higher meaning the same way the Mayan temples did. The background of this composition is made up of a number of Hubble Telescope photos and photos of clouds. One of my favorite projects so far, look up the film on YouTube. It’s inspiring!

Lapis Exillis DVD Package

Lapis Exillis Screen Menu Lapis Exillis is a documentary focused on the Holy Grail. The author explains why specific works of art may suggest the location of the grail. Two of the works (Shepherd’s Monument and The Shepherds of Arcadia) are featured in the documentary and used on this DVD cover. Although the documentary does not attempt to link these artworks by overlapping the images, I felt it reflects the spirit of the subject matter. sheppards.jpg [singlepic id="165" w="220" h="220" mode="" float="right" ]I also think the result is a bit errie, more so if I am the first artist to present these masterpieces in this manner. Regardless, the Knights of Templar cross acts as the heart of the piece, uniting all the characters involved.  The spine of the DVD package repeats the title of the movie while covering the last figure. This figure is revealed on the DVD disc and appears to be handing off a head to the kneeling figure. Without going into theories, the DVD art stands well on it’s own. An original piece that merges modern design with iconic fine art.

Dead Whisper DVD Disc Dead Whisper is a documentary presenting contact and communication with deseased spirits. The authors’ communication is recorded and interpreted with help from computer software. With that in mind, I designed the cover to feature visual symbols of sound waves as they are rendered on computer screens. After modifiing an image of a scary building, I added wispy clouds and photographs of moving green and white lights. Without even reading the title, the viewer has a good guess that this may be a haunted program about sound.

UFOTV - Wake Up Call
My font, Sidhe, was used in this DVD’s logo. Elements from NASA’s image gallery were dramaticly modified to make this image. I also purchased and modified an image of the UFO. I’m very pleased with the colors and lighting effects on this piece.

UFOTV - Approaching The Sacred
This DVD cover has a number of elements that interact with each other. For the logo, I used a font I designed (Sidhe) which incorporates a circle on each letter. The circle is repeated below in a geometric shape similar to a crop circle. Capturing all this at the bottom is a satillite dish in a wheat field.

UFOTV - DVD Package Design and Logo Design

I designed this DVD package with four clip art photographs that I purchased without seeing the film.  The cover suggests an agent existing in the foreground and background of the setting.  Adding a photograph of the milky way compliments the cosmic nature of the documentary.

UFOTV - DVD Package Design and Logo Design

The Shoot Em Up DVD package was made to be a bit scary.  First, I purchased a great photograph of a vintage syringe.  The old device is very intimidating and threatening, perfect for the feel of the documentary.  It is injecting a glowing green fluid into the star on the American Flag to suggest that the old ways of treating disease is toxic.  Behind these images is a list of ingredients found in vaccinations, not meant to be readable but relative to the subject matter.
