YidMatch Homepage – Web Design, Graphic Design and Logo Design

YidMatch – Los Angeles, CA – 2010
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe ImageReady, HTML, CSS, PHP, VLDpersonals, Wordpress and phpBB Forums

YidMatch is an social network (dating web site) built for marriage-minded Jewish singles. To build my client the most secure dating web site, we first purchased software from VLDPersonals. VLDPersonals is a web design company that makes internet dating websites. Outside of the VLDPersonal’s code, the web site also utilizes an additional wordpress cms system and a php forum installation that is synched with the dating site member database. The homepage design targets Jewish, marriage-minded singles. The launch marks the end of a two-year venture in social network programing and designing and I am happy to refer you to see the site here: www.yidmatch.com (feel free to sign up, too, if you are Jewish and single!)

YidMatch.com Features

The YidMatch Features page runs a javascript navigation and highlights the benefits to signing up.

YidMatch.com Options

After purchasing and installing the software, admins are presented with a number of features. Some of the default features were: Instant chat rooms, video, audio, friends, favorites, dozens of search options and a complex events calendar. I took this foundation in the php code, and added a number of modifications and additions to the software.

YidMatch.com Profile Page #1

The YidMatch dating site allows members to modify a number of options on their profile pages. The profile options allow members to build custom web pages to match their personality. Members are able to choose their own graphics, backgrounds and menu placements on their profile page. I designed and implemented over 50 different graphic icons, five of which are part of the member’s profile page. The icons show a large number of characteristics like: eye color, religious background, career, sense of humor and hobbies. Other samples of profile pages are below.

Elephant Logo

Elephant (Marrienette)

Marrienette – Logo Design

Stop Physics – Portland, OR – 2009
Illustration, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Streamline

A fun little elephant logo. The shading and outline of the elephant was drawn by myself, the wings are modified from an actual photograph.

elephant_process1.png

I started out with a sketch, drawn by hand and then scanned.  After I transformed the sketch into a vector image, I began giving the shape highlights and shades.  This was done in Photoshop.

elephant_process2.png

I began outlining the major shapes of the elephant with strong strokes.

elephant_process3.png

I then muted the shading and highlights.  I also added some texture to replicate skin wrinkles.

I pulled some wings from a butterfly photo, modified the wings and added them to the elephant.

Rock ‘n Socks – Logo Design

Stop Physics – Portland, OR – 2009
Illustration, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Streamline

The final and third attempt at the pin-up woman riding a tricycle. This is one of my most realistic images, yet. Although the client chose to follow an alternative route. I’m including the image because it marks a milestone in my illustration style. I would like to work more with realistic illustrations that are used for rock posters.

This shows the process of how the final illustration was produced. Each revision was created with the client’s requests in mind.

rocknsocks1.jpg

My first attempt was too similar to a Dr. Seuss illustration.

rocknsocks2.jpg

My second illustration was more realistic, but the tricycle may look better on an angle.

rocknsocks3.jpg

The third sketch was crude and needed more attention once it was scanned in.

The fourth step in the process produced the vector look of the third sketch.  I felt the woman’s face still needed some work and tweaked some other areas before the final image was presented.

Marrienette – Logo Design

Stop Physics – Portland, OR – 2009
Adobe Illustrator

Client’s image involved the steam punk-circus look. The M will be used for a storefront sign, hung on an angle so strings can hold a marrienette above the store entrance.

UFOTV – 2009 Catalog Design

UFOTV - Catalog cover

I was hired to design and layout a full-color catalog for UFOTV’s entire catalog. The 32-page catalog featured a number of new releases that needed to be incorporated into the cover. Temples, satallite dishes, DNA, totem poles, crop circles and a UFO (of course) were balanced together in formations of triangles. This project took about three weeks to complete and can be downloaded here (http://www/ufotv.com/catalog.pdf).

Good Company Games

I had previously illustrated and designed the cover of this company’s premier board game, Cornerstone. The website was designed around the elements used in the package design and runs off a content management system. The entire site was installed, designed and hand-coded by myself and is WC3 valid. Good Company Games is located here: www.goodcompanygames.com.

Toby had already been using a similar shape that was made of mother of pearl and then embedded on the headstock of his custom guitars. I redrew the shape and gave it color and texture to match the actual image on the guitar. The shape represents the letters “P” and “L”.

Presnell Lutherie

This is a very basic content management site. The entire site was installed, designed and hand-coded by myself and is WC3 valid. Presnell Lutherie is located here: www.presnelllutherie.com.

In planning my first direct mailing, I have worked up a number of postcard ideas.  This did not make the cut, but I feel it works nice enough for my portfolio.

Columbiana!

Posted on Aug13 2008

David Shapiro I just finished this web site for an author in Portland, Oregon. David’s book, Columbiana, needed a web presence and a means for readers to purchase the book. The site uses a content manager and a PayPal gateway. The site also uses a unique plug in that pulls David’s blog from his Tribe webpage and displays the links in the navigation. The book contained black and white colored images which were used to make the graphics of the site. Staying with the theme of the book, the entire site is done in black and white. Take a look at Columbiana!.
